Gnocchi Al Pomodoro

Potato Gnocchi with tomato sauce. Gnocchi is a special handmade pasta, with ingredients varying from corn meal or potato to other types of flour.


  • 750 gm of potatoes
  • 2 eggs
  • 30 gm flour
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 6 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 kg of freshly tomatoes (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp of processed cheese


Preparation of Gnocchi:
1. Cook the potatoes in their skin in salted boiling water till tender. Peel the potatoes when still hot.

2. Mash the potatoes well. Add the eggs. Mix in the flour. Form into smooth and pliable dough.

3. Take a piece of dough. Shape it into an elongated roll. Cut into pieces of 2-cm discs. Groove them with back of a fork.

4. In a pot of boiling salted water, cook the gnocchis in batches. Gnocchis are now cooked to be used.

Preparation of Sauce:
1. Chop the garlic and tomatoes fine.

2. Put the garlic and oil in a large pan and sauté till brown. Add the tomatoes, basil, salt, pepper, red chilli powder. Cook for 15-20 minutes or till the oil separates from the tomatoes. Sauce is now ready.

1. Place the prepared tomato sauce in a serving dish and pour over the gnocchi.

2. Sprinkle finely-grated processed cheese and a few drops of olive oil.
