Maryland Crab Cake

A fishcake made from crabmeat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise


  • 2 cups crab meat (can use ready crabmeat cans or obtain meat by de-shelling crabs)
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning (this is typical seasoning for crab cakes. Possible substitute: Use a mix of celery salt, garlic powder and smoked paprika)
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil


1. Mix crabmeat with mustard, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, old bay seasoning, salt to taste, eggs and breadcrumbs well. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

2. Form round patty s out of the crab mixture and refrigerate again for 10 mins.

3. Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan. Pan Fry the prepared crab cakes or patty s until golden brown on each side. This will only take about 3-5 minutes per side.

Serving suggestion
served best with condiments like tartar sauce and remoulade, or simply with a squeeze of lemon.
